According to research, almost 70% – 75% of a successful website traffic comes from search engines. What’s even more alarming is that people don’t look beyond the first 2 pages of search results. If that’s the scenario, a website that doesn’t rank in the first 2 pages of the search engines, it is only getting 25%-30% of its due traffic.

In addition to the need of ranking highly on search engines, the keywords you compete against other websites should be heavily searched by people or customers related to the product or service that you serve.

Search Engines’ Problem

One of the biggest and main concern of search engines is to provide accurate and relevant search results. Search engine companies like Google, Yahoo and Bing constantly evolve their algorithms to find contents that will bring them the traffic. This traffic will bring them more revenue value, thus the need to provide relevant search results.

Two types of search engine results list

Paid – This is purely advertising. Companies pay the search engine so that their ads will appear on searches. The more you are willing to pay higher than your competitors, the more chance it will appear on the sponsored sections of the search engine results page or SERP.

Natural/Organic/Free – This is the genuine search result. The results section that visitors will most likely look into. This result displays a list of links to the websites with contents relevant to the keyword a user searched for. The results are ranked according to the relevance and importance of these sites.

Here’s how it looks like in Google:
